​The Lost Colony of Roanoke 

Narrative Performance Task:


PART 1
Your school is creating a collection of short stories about the first American Settlements. Since you have studied the mystery of
the Lost Colony of Roanoke recently, you decide to write about the Roanoke Colony. To start, you completed some research about the colony.  During your research, you have found three articles and some videos about  The Lost Colony of Roanoke .

After you review these sources, you will answer some questions about them. Briefly scan the sources and the three questions that follow.  Then go back and read the sources carefully so you will have the information you will need to answer the questions and complete your research.  Use scratch paper to take notes. Your answers to these questions will be scored. Also, your answers will help you think about the information you have read and viewed, which should help you write your story.

In Part 2, you will write a story on a topic related to the sources. 

PART 2
I
n your story, a colonist is trying to successfully settle Roanoke Island, but something goes terribly wrong.  Write a story about what happened to the people the Lost Colony of Roanoke. When writing your story, find ways to use information and details from the sources to improve your story. Make sure you develop your character(s), the setting, and the plot, using details, dialogue, and description where appropriate.

​Remember - for this assignment you need to write a historical fiction narrative that has some real historical people, places and events with some made-up characters, and events.
