PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

Step 1: 
​Review project requirements and get colony assignment.
Step 2: 
​
Download Colony Brochure Packet, review responsibilities of each group member and decide who will be member A, B and C
Step 3: 
​
Research - take notes on important  information and sources in your packet.
Step 4:
​ Using your research notes, write a rough draft. Make sure to write it in the assign text structure
Step 5:
Revise and edit your rough draft and make sure it is clear, complete and informative
Step 6:
Type you final draft in brochure format

Group Member A

1) Cover page
       *N
ame of colony and a visual
       *List names of group members.

      *Written in the cause/effect text             structure 
      *3 positive effects that would     
        happen if people moved to your          colony, such as:
             
"If you  moved to the _______
                  colony, then  _________"

     
2) Economy
      *Written in description text
         structure.

      *2 paragraphs at least one visual

​Guiding Questions

       -What types of jobs are available
          to people in the colony?

       -What is traded in your colony?
       -Who does your colony trade
          with?

       -What food and natural
         resources can you take from
         the land?

       -Does your colony have slaves –
         why or why not?

2) Back  page 
       *Name of colony 
       * Map of colony
       *List names of group members
         and what letter that group 
         member was responsible for.

      

Group Member B

1) History
      *Written using the
​        chronological text structure
      *2 full paragraphs small visual

Guiding Questions
       -Who were the founders?
       -Why was the colony founded?
       -What are 5-7 important
          events  (with dates) in the
          history of  the colony?

2) Physical Features
      *Written in the problem -
         solution text structure
       *1 full paragraph small 
          photograph or map with
          caption .
      *Think of a problem that
         colonist  had and how your
         colony will help be a solution.
Problem = had to provide all their 
            own  food (no grocery stores)
Solution= How will the physical
            features of your colony help
            solve the problem?

​ Guiding Questions
       -Where is the colony located in            terms of other colonies or
          rivers?
​       -What type of geography does
          your colony have?  Ex:
​          Mountains, rivers, woods
       -What were the natural
          resources available in your         
          colony?
  Ex: edible plants and
          animals ,  t
rees to build houses

Group Member C

1) Culture
      *Written in the compare - 
        contrast text structure
      *2 full paragraphs at least one
        visual
      *Must compare your colony to a
        colony in another colony in a
        different region: Southern,
        Middle, or New England
       *2 arguments for why your 
         colony is better than the other 
​         colonies

Guiding Questions
       -What do children do in the
          colony?  
        -What type of recreational
         activities do you do for fun?
        -What religious groups are
          settled there?

        *Written in the description text
           structure.
        *2 paragraphs with visuals

       -Who is in charge of the colony?
       -Who can vote and how
         democratic is your
          government?
       -Do you have a say in what
         happens in the colony?
​       -Why is your form of
         government a good thing for
​         the local people?​

All group members - Bibliography 
All students need to provide a  bibliography on the back cover with a  complete list of sources including  the author's name, titles, publisher, dates and web address.
